Small size Heriz rugs of great age are extremely rare. This one stands apart for its unique design that is not of carpet origin but seems to be inspired by the exotic and recently discovered 18th century Kaitag textiles of Azerbaijan. In a sense that shouldn't be surprising given that the whole region encompassing both was a single unit until relatively recently. The graphic elements are bold and few. The medallion dominates the show and practically touches all four borders. Its shape recalls the embroideries as do the white bracket forms (stylized dragons?) that are attached to it. Unique and irresistible to Heriz lovers.
You can't only be a customer of Hadi Maktabi. While his main purpose is rug dealing, he starts with story telling and ends with history selling. That's what I call high-end art curating and closing it all with an entertaining friendship. George El Hani, CEO Levica, Lebanon 🇱🇧
I must say this one of the most enriching carpet purchase experiences I ever had. This was not a mere transaction but more an experience about art and history. Dr Maktabi's experience and knowledge in this space is second to none. Highly recommended! R.A., Doha, Qatar
