Story

Something you may not have come across before. This is a very rare example of an antique Natanz, neither Kashan nor Joshagahan despite the familiar look. Furthermore, it’s an equally rare funerary rug with elaborate history inwoven. Super soft Kork lambswool and killer natural dyes.

The rug was created for the mausoleum of a local Sayyed, or lineal descendant of the Prophet Mohammad. The complete date was mentioned. Equivalent to Thursday 14 April 1918. Exactly 107 years ago. Have you ever seen such a detailed antique rug?

Natanz, in Esfahan province, is a very remote town (hence why it’s in the news lately) but within access to both Kashan and Joshaghan. Its carpet weaving tradition is noted but very little is known about it and few examples have survived. This makes our historical masterpiece extremely important.

What our customers say!

I must say this one of the most enriching carpet purchase experiences I ever had. This was not a mere transaction but more an experience about art and history. Dr Maktabi's experience and knowledge in this space is second to none. Highly recommended! R.A., Doha, Qatar
