A fantastical antique rug with distinct iconography. The border boasts mythical Vaqvaq features while the field is topped by a Mehrab of exaggerated shape and proportions. So much so that its tip or apex disappears into the horizon beyond (behind?) the border.
Fish and bizarre marine creatures swim in the sea at the bottom, underneath a floating castle lifted from Naboo. Quadripeds and land beasts then dot the landscape, with birds perched beyond, perfectly reflecting the hierarchy of the physical world.
The rug bears a date 1250 Hijri, corresponding to 1833. That's almost 200 years old!
