Another masterpiece from the endlessly creative and tasteful weavers of old Heriz back in the 1800s. This time it’s something far rarer than usual.
This is the only Heriz Garden carpet of Chaharbagh style that I’ve seen. The inspiration is ancient and goes back to at least the Achaemenid period circa 500 BC, and has been depicted on Persian carpets since the Safavid period at least.
Water ponds and channels enclose sections of flowers and vegetation. The rectilinear connectors are water channels but the diagonally slanted ones seem to be curling dragons, adapted or adopted form far older medieval traditions such as the archaic Caucasian Dragon carpets and Dragon sumakhs.

Highly decorative too with its ivory cream field and pops of sky blue and pistachio green. The border is quite lovely too I find.
