Unique and eye catching would be an understatement. This pair of dazzler design Afshar rugs are from the much loved group of Roo-Korsi carpets woven by the tribe in premodern times. Each rug was intended to be placed on the elevated seating platforms known as Korsi, which later became the Arabic word for 'chair'.
Geometrically powerful and aesthetically attractive, this pair is also dated 1334 (1906). Interestingly one of the two dates is inscribed in mirror writing, indicating that the rugs were woven side by side and one weaver was copying the other (her sister?).
