Samplers from Malayer are very rare, even among the very rare group of surviving Vagireh rugs in the world. Vagireh or ornak rugs were samplers, created to teach new weavers (usually daughters) and guide them into the design process so that they would have a template to follow. They were almost always discarded once the young weaver learnt her trade and needed the sampler no longer. Thus they are quite scarce and extremely rare. Collecting them has caused a distinct and separate class of carpet collectors to arise. Many of my regular clients are Vagireh crazy like I am.
This sampler is of Mishan quality. The elegant cypress tree rises to meet the tips of two inverted sisters of hers. A hint of a medallion at the top is a sublime finishing touch.
“I practically furnished my entire home with carpets from Hadi. The process was not only a joy but it was also a learning experience for me. Hadi was super helpful in identifying the right pieces for my home that would both work with my taste, budget, sizes required and that would be a good investment for my family. Hadi’s collection is second to none, and his knowledge and service is truly the blessing on top.” Amr Banaja, Public Investment Fund, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

You can't only be a customer of Hadi Maktabi. While his main purpose is rug dealing, he starts with story telling and ends with history selling. That's what I call high-end art curating and closing it all with an entertaining friendship. George El Hani, CEO Levica, Lebanon 🇱🇧
